Diversity Makes God Greater
In a world filled with so many divisions and conflicts that it can be hard to grasp, it feels freeing to highlight what unites us — we are all humans loved by God. At the same time, we can offer a community built on diversity, where every difference makes God greater.

When I come to Immanuel Church and walk toward my room, I am greeted by the photo collage of portraits, “Faces of Immanuel,” which was created a few years ago, photographed by Marco Helles. The images show people of different ages, from various countries, and both women and men. It is beautiful and welcoming!
When we meet people, we are usually drawn to those who are like ourselves. That’s how our brains work. It’s not just about appearance. We might share interests, language, or life situations. And after our services, many of us prefer to sit with those we already know. It feels safe.
Since I began my service in the congregation last August, I have made an effort to participate in the church’s three language groups and regularly attend services in Korean, English, and Swedish. I have sought what unites us, and I feel welcomed in all three settings. In the Korean group because I was born in South Korea, in the international group because I was not born in Sweden, and in the Swedish group because I was raised in Sweden — and in the free church. It’s wonderful and amazing!
Similarities and what unites us are important when we build relationships and trust, but my experience is that it’s differences that help us grow! Meeting and listening to someone who doesn’t share the same life experiences or faith broadens my world and deepens my faith.
In a world filled with so many divisions and conflicts that it’s hard to take it all in, it feels liberating to highlight what unites us — we are all human beings, loved by God — and at the same time offer a community defined by diversity, where every difference makes God greater.
To me, this is Immanuel Church!
To me, this is Pentecost!
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
(1 Corinthians 12:13)

The support team is back!
Many years ago, Immanuel Church had support teams that assisted members and others with various needs. Sometimes, we in the diaconate receive requests for practical support and help.
It can be about all kinds of things, but some examples include a TV that’s acting up, assembling a bookshelf, tutoring math, or practicing Swedish.
If you’re interested in helping out or have any questions, please contact the deacon: Frida Fritzon frida.fritzon@immanuelskyrkan
