Songs from Immanuel was created in close collaboration with theologians, where young people have had the opportunity to delve into and interpret the lyrics in their own way. This music is not only an artistic experience—it is also an invitation to community, reflection, and faith.

Come and share this musical experience with us on April 5!

Hanna grew up in Nässjö. She is a singing teacher and choir director, plays the piano and a little accordion. She now lives with her family in Bromma and currently works part-time at the Uniting Church in Sweden with responsibility for music and creative expression. In addition to that position, she works as a music teacher at Kulturama.

Preliminarily, she will take over as principal of the Immanuel Music School on 1 May 2025. From May she will work half-time with us and half-time at the Uniting Church in Sweden.

Three questions for Ulrika Grevin

We’re asking our new colleague Ulrika three quick questions to get to know her a little better.

1. What did you do before you came here?
For the past few years, I have been balancing my studies to become a deacon with work, gaining invaluable experiences along the way. My most recent position was at Kryckan, a meeting place for individuals facing vulnerable situations. Kryckan is operated by the Church of Sweden in Haninge and is located in the former church building of the Mission Church.

2. What do you do when you’re not working?
One of my favorite things about having time off or having no schedule is enjoying a ‘slow morning.’ Aside from that, I make time for exercise, rest, and spending time with my family. At home, there’s always a knitting project or some other craft to keep me busy. Recently, I’ve also decided to add a new, time-consuming activity to my free time: this season, I’m working on getting my golf green card!

3. What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
I wouldn’t call myself a risk-taker, but there have definitely been moments when I’ve had to summon a lot of courage. Just being human takes bravery, especially when life comes at you fast. Looking back, one of my bravest decisions was applying to study in London and moving there at 27 to pursue higher university education. I didn’t make it further than Earls Court tube station from the airport before I ‘got lost.’ After that, life in London kept testing me for the next 10 months.

3×11- theme Power April 8

Welcome to an evening at Immanuel with different perspectives on power. Come as you are, whether it’s after your exam, work, or before bedtime. Join us to socialize and take home new thoughts! Soup, bread, and something extra will be served in the church. Drop-in from 18.00. The program starts at 18.30.

Taking control of your own life” is advice many receive when external factors are influencing our lives. But what do we do when we feel powerless? How does the power dynamic actually work in Swedish politics? How much can power-hungry men control before society steps in to stop it? What is the true definition of power? And is there something to learn from Jesus when it comes to power?

What is a 3×11 at Immanuel?

  • 3×11 is an evening where we learn something new and socialize together. One theme, three perspectives, 11 minutes. Each time, we share a meal and enjoy live music.
  • Luke 3:11: “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”
  • 3×11 always offers three perspectives: knowledge, faith, and community, all focused on the same topic.

Experten:

Ardalan Shekarabi is a Member of Parliament and a former minister. On this evening, he will answer questions such as, “What does it feel like to navigate the corridors of power every day?” “Is it possible to feel powerless as a politician?” “And are there any pieces of advice we should offer those with a lot of power?”

Theologian:

Joseph Sverker is a Doctor of Theology and teaches systematic theology and church history at Enskilda Högskolan Stockholm. He will speak about power from a theological perspective. Historically, the church has held significant power in society, but what power does it have today? And what power does God truly have over what happens in the world?

Community:

The role of a leader is a natural part of power dynamics. But what emotions do different types of leaders evoke in us, and what can we learn from those who have been effective as well as those who have not? The hosts for the evening, Clara, Linda, and Unni, have reflected on this more…

Music:

Jakob Hördegård is a true cultural enthusiast. With strings of architecture, art, and music in his repertoire, Jakob has created works of various kinds. For this evening, he has interpreted the theme and will present a piece of sound art in the wake of power.

Welcome!

The Election Committee Proposes
Peter Dobers as the New Chairman of
the Congregation.

The congregation’s current chairman, Greger Hjelm, informed the election committee in January that he would not be available for re-election. The committee immediately began working to find a successor. They prioritized finding someone who is already on the board and well acquainted with the work.

Peter Dobers is a member of the current board who has served the longest and has extensive knowledge of the congregation’s various areas of activity. The election committee invited him for a discussion. Shortly thereafter, we agreed to approach him. We are pleased that he has expressed his willingness to stand as a candidate for the chairmanship of the congregation.

Peter Dobers became a member of Immanuel Church in 1999 and has held various positions within the congregation in different areas. For the past ten years, he has been a member of the congregation’s board. He is well acquainted with the congregation’s work in its full scope, as well as with its language groups.

Peter Dobers has been a professor of business administration at Södertörn University for the past ten years, specializing in sustainability. Previously, he held a similar professorship at Mälardalen University. At both of these universities, he was entrusted with the responsible academic leadership role as dean and led the work of the faculty board. In addition, he has extensive experience in board work. He has also been a member of the board of the Theological University (now Enskilda Högskolan).

The election committee believes that Peter Dobers, with his experiences, open attitude, and love for the congregation, will make a great chairman for Immanuel Church’s congregation.

The Miracle of Healing

“Mother’s hands are healing hands”

This is the title of a traditional Korean children’s song. I remember when I was a child, whenever I had a stomach ache, my mother would sing this short lyric while rubbing my stomach. Then, like magic, the pain would disappear. Was there some medical efficacy in my mother’s hands? Of course not. The only thing in those hands was the love of a mother wishing for her child to get better.

Many miracles happen in the world, but among them, the one that undoubtedly captures our hearts and minds is the “miracle of healing.” We cannot fully explain this miracle with our words, as it is entirely due to the grace of God, the giver of life.

As we observe Lent, I reflect deeply on the ministry of Jesus, especially His healing ministry. I think about how, in the midst of the oppression of the Roman Empire, Jesus did not ignore the cries of the most vulnerable—those suffering from poverty and illness. He touched them and healed them. Jesus offered healing to those who were marginalized because of illness and had no hope, providing treatment without charge or discrimination.

Today, there is still much suffering in the world. People are crying out for Christ’s healing, whether it be physical pain, mental anguish, or the pain of broken relationships. I hope for healing miracles for all who suffer. However, that may not always happen, and we cannot fully explain why.

The famous Japanese author Ayako Miura, who wrote the novel The Freezing Point, suffered from tuberculosis throughout her life and later battled cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Before she died, she left this message:

“God, what You do is always right, because You love me more than I love myself and You know me better than I know myself.”

What we can be certain of is that God loves us more than anyone else and knows us better than anyone else. Even in the midst of unhealed pain, God’s love for us does not cease, and He is healing us in His own way. With this faith, we, as His disciples, must now entrust our lives and healing to Christ and turn our attention to the pain of others: the pain of society, the pain of the community, the pain of the nation, and the pain of the world.

Jesus calls us to be healing hands for our neighbors. In a world where the relentless pursuit of Mammon and the violence of survival of the fittest leave wounds, and where the number of bleeding souls continues to grow, our hands—armed with love, the most powerful weapon—must continue Jesus’ healing ministry. Through us, Christ will heal the world.
