Overcome evil with good

Sunday, March 8, the theme in the church year was “The struggle against evil,” and it feels more relevant than I wish it were.

Every time I turn on TV or scroll on my phone, I am flooded with news about conflicts that are out of control, where good and evil blend together. And I encounter stories from people living in vulnerable situations where the sense of powerlessness is brutal.

The struggle against evil continues. In the world. In Sweden. In Stockholm — and far too often, also in my own life.

I desperately search for a lifeline to hold on to so that I don’t fall and go under. And I find it in Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

I am currently taking a course called “Church and Police in Partnership Church – Police in Partnership” so that, as a deacon, I can be a support in a local police district. Over the past few weeks, I have been doing field practice and riding in a police car for three days, wearing a deacon’s shirt and a protective vest.

On my very first shift, I was present when a young man was arrested on suspicion of a serious drug offense. We also searched for a woman who no longer wanted to live. When we found her, it led to a long conversation and a journey to transport her to the psychiatric emergency unit.

I am deeply impressed by the police officers — their courage and patience. If they arrest someone for drugs, they know there are infinitely many more. If they take a person to psychiatric care, it is likely that on their very next shift they will meet someone else who is struggling mentally and needs help. And yet they keep going. Because they believe that what they do can make a difference.

For me, ‘Church and Police in Partnership’ is an opportunity to unite forces for good. And if we are to overcome evil with good — as Scripture calls us to — it may even be essential. Together we are stronger!” For me, “Church – Police in Collaboration” is an opportunity to gather forces for good. And if we are to defeat evil with good, it may even be necessary. We are stronger together.

We don’t need to look for evil and destructiveness — they are already there. But the good is something we must actively choose. Again and again. It is not a demand. It is an opportunity!

God, sometimes we lose sight of both You and ourselves in the darkness and evil.
Jesus, do not let us become stuck in hopelessness and passivity. Lift us, carry us, and help us to find and hold fast to the good — that which gives security and hope. That which is You, God.
Amen.

The children’s sports vacation filled the church with life.

Winter break was filled with children’s activities in Immanuel Church.  Over 20 children gathered on Tuesday  and Thursday for two days of  fun, laughs, learning and relationship building in the gym.

We spent our time in the gym and our newly opened HQ space on the K3 level.  With the help of the 6 amazing students from Holsby Bible school who joined us for the week, we were able to receive both children and youth for a week’s worth of fun.

The boys and girls were met with love and laughter as we played together in the gym, heard faith stories from our Holsby friends, and built relationships and memories that we will carry with us always.

Thank you Olivia, Mette, Kara, Judah, Josia och Ben! God Bless you all as He shows you His purpose for your future.

Lock-In – a night filled with fellowship, faith and joy

On the last weekend of February, the church was filled with life as around fifty young people gathered for a night of fellowship, worship service, and games. We had the joy of welcoming students from the Bible school Holsby Camp, who shared personal testimonies and led various activities with great enthusiasm.

In the morning, we left the church tired but filled with joy and gratitude.

As he rode along, people spread their cloaks on the road. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfilment in the kingdom of God.”.«They handed him a cup, and he gave thanks to God and said: »Take this and share it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.«Then he took some bread, gave thanks to God, broke it, and gave it to them, saying: »This is my body, given for you; do this in remembrance of me.«In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying: »This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.« Luke 22:14–20

They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them:»Why do you look

Celebration of the congregation’s jubilarians

The congregation recognizes members who turn 75, 80, 85, 90 and 90+, usually through a visit from a Deacon or a Pastor. During the summer of 2025, as often happens, many of the members we wished to recognize were away. Therefore, at the beginning of the autumn we invited them to a joint celebration at the church.”

Since this was so well received, we have now decided to continue this appreciated way of celebrating our jubilarians. Going forward, we will invite members and celebrate on a quarterly basis.

Here are some photos from the celebration of the jubilarians during the first quarter of the year.
