A hand on the back

“You have to carry me,” my niece insisted firmly when I picked her up from preschool. She had taken her scooter there, but now she was too tired to ride it. I had a lot to carry, so I explained that I couldn’t carry her—but I could give her a push. With my hand on her back for encouragement and support, she made it home.

For me, that scooter ride became a metaphor for our role as a congregation. I dream of a church where we support one another in finding balance and giving each other a push forward.”

Life can sometimes feel like a wobbly scooter ride without brakes. That’s when we need one another—someone to hold us up, believe in us, give us courage, and offer a gentle hand on our back as a reminder that we’re not alone. Jesus showed us this through His life: He carried the weak, encouraged the discouraged, and loved without limits.

The Bible says: Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

Maybe you’re thinking this sounds difficult—it can feel heavy to carry someone else’s burdens. But remember the image of the scooter: sometimes all that’s needed is a hand on someone’s back. Maybe that means seeing the Roma man sitting in the church square, or offering a word of encouragement to someone you meet at church coffee. Maybe you can’t come to church, but if you want to, you are always a part of Immanuel—and you can still be a hand on someone’s back through prayer. Together, we make a difference.

Wishing you a lovely start to the summer season

Kulturnatten 2025 was everything we could have hoped for!

Last Saturday, Immanuel Church was transformed into a musical meeting place during Kulturnatt Stockholm. From gospel to baroque, from the youth choir’s Stevie Wonder interpretations to jazz, Americana, and newly written ballads about trust—the evening offered something for everyone. We filled the sanctuary, Walden, and Hotel Birger Jarl with musical joy and community. Thank you to all the choirs, musicians, soloists, and audience members who made the evening unforgettable.

We’re already looking forward to next year! 🙌

Help Us Keep the Government Grant – Confirm Your Participation Using the Link Below!

Each year, Equmeniakyrkan receives a government grant that helps us continue and develop our activities. Starting from the turn of the year 2024/2025, new regulations will apply (read more below). In order to continue receiving this support, we need to show how many people are actually participating in our activities. This applies to everyone who has taken part in any of our programs during 2024—whether you’re a member or not.

Next Week: If you are a member of Immanuelskyrkan, you will receive an email from us from the address immanuelskyrkansforsamling@equmeniakyrkan.nu. It will contain the same information as in this newsletter.

What’s New?

  • Starting in 2024/2025, new rules apply to government grants for faith communities:
  • We now need your personal consent to include you in the grant application.
  • Previously, being active in our programs was enough—now you must verbally or in writing confirm that you wish to be counted.
  • We process your personal data in accordance with GDPR.

Why Is This Important?

  • The government grant directly supports church activities, such as projects, staff salaries, and other costs.
  • By confirming your participation, you help us continue building and developing our community.
  • This isn’t just about numbers—it reflects the engagement and fellowship within our congregation.
  • By collecting statistics and getting consent from participants, we demonstrate that the church is a valuable part of society—and we secure resources for the future.

Have you taken part in any of Immanuelskyrkan’s activities in 2024?
Then please click the link to give your consent and be included in the grant application

If we don’t have your email address, we’ll send a physical letter with this information (members only).

Breakfast in Community – Your chance to make new acquaintances

Breakfast in Community is Immanuel Church’s open and warm invitation to everyone – a new step in the tradition of fellowship for both those in need and worship attendees.

In April 1915, the City Mission started “Bullkyrkan” in Old Town. After more than a hundred years, “Bullkyrkan” was closed, but similar activities continue at Mariatorget.

Immanuel Church has organized “Christmas in Community,” “Easter in Community,” and “Lunch in Community” for nearly twenty years. Last year, the next step was taken with “Breakfast in Community” once a month. “Breakfast in Community” aims to be Immanuel Church’s own alternative to Bullkyrkan.

Everyone is invited—those in need in Stockholm who usually attend “Lunch in Community,” as well as you, regular worship attendees.

Take the opportunity to start Sunday with breakfast and fellowship. Take the opportunity to meet new people on Sunday morning. Take the opportunity to break the tradition of only sitting with old acquaintances at church coffee. There are stories of new visitors to the church sitting in the church square, checking if anyone comes over to greet them and sit at the table.

Dare to show that Immanuel Church in Stockholm is an open church where we meet, both those in need and established members, in a community – Breakfast in Community.
