Do words play a role?
We are now approaching the end of Lent — the forty days during which the Church around the world reflects on what draws us away from God and what draws us toward Him. By setting aside something small from our daily routine — something that may have taken up too much space — we become more aware of our habits. The purpose of the Church’s forty-day fast is primarily to help us discover what is stifling our inner life, so that the fire of faith can begin to burn within us once more.

A young man had just gotten married, but he struggled to express words of appreciation. Though he wasn’t used to speaking about his feelings, he was moved by how happy his wife became each time he made the effort to encourage her.
As the years passed, those small words of encouragement gradually grew between them and took root as a shared routine. Together, they made a conscious effort to find that warm, affirming language that meant so much to them both.
In the midst of life — with increasing work demands, children leaving home, fatigue, and aging bodies marked by aching backs and sleepless nights — time passed. Dog walks came and went, and somewhere along the way, they realized that their words of encouragement had become a habit. Kind words were spoken regularly, through both storms and stillness.
Much later, in the autumn of life, after many years shared together, a new insight began to dawn. These words of encouragement had become more than something they had occasionally spoken in their youth — they had become a rhythm, a habit, a way of life.
In these remaining days before Easter, may we reflect on how we use our words — not only with those we love, but also in the way we speak to ourselves.
Happy Easter!

Sunday, April 20
At the heart of the Christian faith lies a profound and transformative statement: that a man who died, his body destroyed through the brutal execution of crucifixion, rose again – not to the same life as before, but to a completely new kind of life.
Even more challenging is the claim that this new life is a sign that God will transform and renew all of creation!
The man who rose was, of course, Jesus, and through His resurrection, His disciples realized that nothing would ever be the same again. The broken world had now been given a future!

We need volunteers for the shower ministry for vulnerable EU/EEA citizens. Your help can make a huge difference! No prior experience needed.

One of Immanuel Church’s key diaconal efforts is to provide shower facilities for vulnerable EU/EEA citizens living in our city. For those without housing or financial resources, personal hygiene is far from a given – that’s why every Thursday afternoon, we open the shower rooms next to the church’s sports hall. A small effort that can make a big difference and empower individuals.
We are now looking for more volunteers to join a rotating schedule, led by responsible staff. Both new and returning volunteers are warmly welcome! No prior experience is required – the most important thing is that you want to be a present and caring person. Each volunteer shift lasts about 1.5 hours, and there are always at least two people on site. Would you like to contribute some of your time? We know it will be greatly appreciated – by both participants and staff. Sign up your interest or reach out to our Diaconal Assistant, Ulrika Grevin, to learn more: ulrika.grevin@immanuelskyrkan.se
