Seven smiles later

Sometimes it can be useful to be the one who doesn’t know how everything works. To arrive as a newcomer in a setting where you don’t know the routines, culture, or faces. I remember a short visit to a new place some time ago where that very thing happened.

Uncertain and frustrated, I stood in front of the information screen, trying to figure out where to go. Then a woman appeared at my side and said kindly:
– I’m a volunteer host here, can I help you?

She looked at my note and pointed me in the right direction.
A little later – confused in a corridor – two staff members stopped. They immediately saw that I was lost and helped me on my way. And it continued like that: people who noticed me, asked, pointed, smiled, helped. When I was done with my errand, I even found out that I had forgotten my umbrella – someone had noticed.

Seven people had helped me before I stepped out onto the street again.
In church right now, we meet many new people every week – at services, gatherings, small groups, and courses. Signs and programs are not enough – we need people who link arms, show the way, introduce others, and make room for questions and uncertainty.

Hospitality is about all of us helping each other. Seeing the one who is new, being attentive, and offering community. Sometimes it is precisely the small gesture – a smile, a question, a “would you like to sit here with us?” – that determines whether someone chooses to come back.

UFO Day was a success

As part of the organ festival Organ Space, we welcomed about twenty children to Immanuel Church last Saturday for a playful and educational day.

Under the guidance of organists Bjørn Ulvedalen and Ania Proskourina, the children got to build an organ, play games, sing, and make music together in the church space – which was transformed into a creative playroom. The day ended with an open stage where the children presented what they had created during the day for parents and an audience. We are happy and grateful to be part of this inspiring festival for the fifth year in a row.

On the weekend of September 6-7, we ended with the group of confirmands we have had the pleasure of having in Immanuelskyrkan during 2025.

On Saturday evening, confirmands, their families and leaders had a great evening of celebration together, where we got to present, show, tell and summarize what we have done and experienced during the year of confirmation.

The year then ended on Sunday with a nice and solemn closing service where the confirmands participated in several different ways. We are grateful for the wonderful group that we have gotten to know, and share both faith and life with during the year.

Are you yourself, or do you know someone who is curious about the confirmation in Immanuel next year?

K3 is finished – now three new initiatives are launching

The facilities on floor K3 have now been fully renovated, and 3 new children’s and youth programs will soon be starting there!

A few years ago, the question was raised about where we could host activities for children and youth here at Immanuel Church. It turned out that the rooms originally built for children’s and youth ministry had, one by one, been repurposed, making it difficult to find suitable spaces. After much visioning, planning, and prayer, a decision was made to renovate the facilities on K3 so they could once again be used for various children’s and youth activities. And now they are finally ready! A big thank you to everyone who, in different ways, made this possible.

The new programs will take place in the afternoons, Tuesday–Thursday, 15:30–18:30.

  • Tuesdays: Ages 0–9
  • Wednesdays: Teenagers
  • Thursdays: Ages 10–12

Children and youth will be able to try out different musical instruments, create digital music, explore various forms of creative arts, enjoy sports and physical activities, receive homework support, access prayer and quiet time in the prayer room, have an afternoon snack, spend time talking with new and old friends, and much more. All activities are free of charge, and everyone is welcome.

If you’d like to contribute to the program on any of the days, feel free to get in touch with me. Perhaps you can help with homework, music (especially for the youngest children), creative arts, be a supportive adult presence, or bring other skills and gifts that could benefit children and youth. If it concerns ages 0–12, please contact me at simon.minnhagen@immanuelskyrkan.se.

If it concerns teenagers, please contact
david.emmoth@immanuelskyrkan.se, and we’ll talk further.

The program is expected to launch at the beginning of October. More information will soon be available on the website, and everyone will be invited to come and take a closer look at the newly renovated facilities.

The New Law –  coming to terms with the Sermon on the Mount

When Jesus went up onto the mountain and started to teach the crowds, people would have been struck by the similarity with the story of Moses going up on Mount Sinai to receive and pass on the Jewish Law, the Torah, to the people of Israel. Jesus was claiming to be a new Moses, communicating the true Law of God, the way of life shared by the people of the Kingdom of God. Today we call this new Law “The Sermon on the Mount”

In this autumn bible study series, we will examine his teaching (Matthew 5-7) which radically challenges our assumptions about what it means to be human, to share human community and to live in fellowship with God.

The group meets on Thursday evenings throughout the autumn. Each evening begins with a light meal at 18.30 followed by the study at about 19.15. You are welcome to come to both or just come for the study.

The language used in the group is English.

THE CHURCH FEE – How it Works.

Hey Oloruntobi Samuel Ayodele, ”Tobi”!

The Ubuntu choir have a choir director! Oloruntobi Samuel Ayodele, or ‘Tobi’ as he is generally known, began work in the church in July.

Tobi was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up in a Christian family, and through his family and church, he developed a love for music at an early age.

Seven years ago, he came to Sweden to reunite with his parents, who had already moved here. Since then, he has studied at university, worked as a music director for Glory Tabernacle International in Tumba, and contributed to music ministries in many different churches around the Stockholm area. Music is his great passion, but outside of music, he loves football.

He is married to Temilola, and together they have a one-year-old daughter, Lael. There is much about life in Sweden that he appreciates – for example, his favorite meal of mashed potatoes and salmon – but he misses Nigeria’s climate.

Tobi describes himself as easygoing and as someone who loves God.

September 26–28, the Church Conference of Equmeniakyrkan will take place at Immanuel Church.

On Sunday, September 28, at 2pm the conference concludes with a commissioning service with Holy Communion, where our deputy Church leader Niklas Piensoho will preach. Music will be provided by musicians from Immanuel Church including Björn Gäfvert, Viktoria Glans, Victor Bodell, amongst others, and singers from Immanuel Nova, Vox Immanuel, Immanuel Gospel, and the Youth Choir. The service language is Swedish.
You are very welcome to join us!
