Temporary Position (March–November 2025)
Immanuelskyrkan is located in central Stockholm. It is a place where people of all ages, from various parts of the world, and in diverse life situations meet. Supporting and assisting people in vulnerable circumstances is one of our prioritized areas, and we are currently seeking a temporary deacon to fill a position as one of our current deacons pursues studies.
About the Job
As a deacon at Immanuelskyrkan, you will be part of a team that includes two additional deacons and a pastor. We collaborate on various diaconal projects with other congregations, associations, and organizations. This role involves both outreach work, supporting people in vulnerable situations, and providing assistance to congregation members. You will likely be the team member responsible for liaising with Löjtnantshemmet, the congregation’s own care and nursing home. Additionally, you will oversee our ministry for the homeless. Once a week, we open our sports hall to EU migrants, offering them the opportunity to take a shower.
You are a trained deacon, ordained in the Uniting Church in Sweden (Equmeniakyrkan), or a deacon candidate on the path to ordination. You have experience working with people in different life situations and within a congregation. Preferably, you have additional professional education and experience prior to your deacon training. You have strong knowledge of, and are eager to learn more about, social work. You enjoy working with people in diverse circumstances.
Due to Immanuelskyrkan’s international profile, proficiency in both Swedish and English is required. As a person, you are self-assured, organized, capable of managing multiple processes simultaneously, and comfortable setting boundaries.
As a person, you are confident in yourself, capable of creating structure, able to manage multiple processes simultaneously, and unafraid to set boundaries. Previous experience working in intercultural contexts is considered an advantage. A category B driver’s license is desirable.
We strive for equality and diversity to characterize the work of the congregation and welcome applicants of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.
You will have an interesting and rewarding job where no two days are the same. You’ll encounter a dynamic environment with exciting challenges and become part of a collegial team. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with many dedicated volunteers.
We place great importance on your personal suitability for the role. As part of our hiring process, we conduct a background check on the final candidate before offering employment. This position is a temporary appointment from February/March to November 2025.
